Long-form & unhurried
No rushed junkets. Every episode is a proper sit-down conversation with room to breathe, often running well over an hour.
Who we are
Half the Picture is a long-form interview podcast about the people who make the films and television we love – and the winding, unlikely careers that got them there.
Hosted by Billy Barnell, Half the Picture began in 2024 with a simple idea: give talented people the time and space to tell the whole story. Not a press-junket soundbite, but the real thing – the false starts, the lucky breaks, the craft, and the weird detours nobody usually asks about.
Each episode is a relaxed, one-on-one conversation with a filmmaker, actor, composer, editor or artist. Guests have opened up about everything from the future of Doctor Who to editing Bohemian Rhapsody, scoring Gravity, cutting Top Gun: Maverick, and finding peace in a noisy digital age.
The result is a growing library of candid, warm and genuinely curious conversations – for anyone who loves film, television and the strange, wonderful business of making it.
What to expect
No rushed junkets. Every episode is a proper sit-down conversation with room to breathe, often running well over an hour.
From directing and acting to editing and film scoring – real questions about how the work actually gets made.
Relaxed, honest and often very funny. Guests relax, open up, and go places other interviews don’t.
Every full episode is filmed and released in 4K on YouTube, with audio everywhere you get your podcasts.
New conversations land regularly. Follow the show wherever you watch or listen, and catch clips and guest announcements on Instagram.
